Civil War 2010 Followup
06/12/10 21:46
Civil War 2010 is over, at least for me. There is always next year. I uploaded the last of 85 images last night to my Civil War 2010 - the antique versions flickr set.
Its time consuming, but I like the results. My basic steps this year:
1 - In Lightroom apply the sepia hint preset from the Redrex Presets Collection. I liked this preset that lightened and desaturated the original.
2 - Desaturated about 25% more in Lightroom or after moved to Photoshop.
3-Opened in Photoshop and applied Topaz Adjust (most images) or Topaz Detail. This increased local contrast, added detail and often gave a slight HDR look to the image.
4 - Applied a rough border.

Photo from Wednesday night in downtown Los Angeles given color boost with Topaz Detail Blue Sky preset.
Playing with the Triforium

Tonight I got carried away - again - playing with the Triforium in Downtown Los Angeles. I used the QuadCamera app on my iPhone to shoot the image. Then two copies opened in photoshop and Topaz Simplify 2 applied. One image got Buz Sim preset, the other the woodcarving preset. Then the two copies were placed together on different layers and blend-if sliders used to combine into final image. Just having too much fun.
Using Topaz Adjust

Recently Topaz Adjust was added to my
tools in Photoshop. (A Christmas present - yea!)
Here are some early results.
Topaz Adjust gives you great controls over detail and saturation. So first thing I did was use one of the smoothing presets in Adjust to cut detail, then run Topaz Simplify to turn this photo from Bend, Oregon, into a painting.
Next up is the photo of Peppertree Park in Newbury Park. Topaz Adjust can easily give an image an HDR look.
This pic from Wednesday morning was very dull, that is until playing with Topaz Adjust detail and saturation controls.
This pile of wet leaves was also run through Topaz Adjust.
Needless to say, I like it - Topaz Adjust.
