Auto Painter

Yesterday I purchased a new $1.99 iPhone app called AutoPainter HD. First results look great.
For this photo, I started with a recent photo from the DC-3 celebration at the Santa Monica Airport. First I used DynaLight HD - great Shadow/Highlight app — and lightened the cockpit area. Then I applied the ultra contrast special effect filter in DynaLight. Next stop was in PictureShow where I used half gray, burned border, light leak 1 and grunge noise.
Final stop was in the new AutoPainter HD. I used the Benson setting.

Dallas Cowboy Helmet Carriers

When the Dallas Cowboys came to summer training camp at California Lutheran College (now University), local kids would adopt a player. Each day the kid would help carry water, helmets and pads for the player during the camp.
In 1983 about 40 kids had adopted a player and I followed them for a couple days at the Cowboy training camp. Above is one of the images.

Saturday I stopped at the wildflower garden near Thousand Oaks Library and shot away.

This morning while uploading I noticed from Facebook, that my friend and retired Los Angeles Times photo editor posted this youtube video on the same garden.
Cattle Roundup

Back in 1983, while working at the Thousand Oaks News Chronicle, I spent a Sunday morning at Lang Ranch covering a cattle roundup. The "Sunday cowboys" would gather, separate and brand the cattle.
Lang Ranch is now a housing development at the northern end of Thousand Oaks. Back in the 1980s it was still a working cattle operation.
