Blooming Trees
What's with all the blooming trees in January???? Looks like winter lasted three weeks and two of those weeks was an 80 degrees heat wave.

The fall foliage lasted until New Years. Then a couple cold days, followed by heat wave, then trees covered by blooming flowers with bees going crazy. Here are a couple photos from Monday on Kimber Drive in Newbury Park. Enyoy.

Steve Jobs Introduces the Mac
Today Fortune web site Apple 2.0 blog by By Philip Elmer-DeWitt posted a story on the 25th, but more importantly a You Tube video of a very young looking Steve Jobs introducing the original Mac Computer in 1984. Its a must view. This is a less than 5 minute version of the Mac introduction. I also found a longer ten minute version on You Tube. In fact there are many Steve Job videos posted.

Enjoy - and thanks Philip Elmer-DeWitt.

Hey Mac! Happy 25th!

I have several old Macs stored away. This morning I pulled out an SE-30. It has system 7.5.3, 8 megs of Ram, 40 meg hard drive and color video card. It was really upgraded. So I started up the old kids homework software Writing Center and made messages for Apple and Mr. Jobs.

Monday I shot these two images of Newbury Park Frosh Soph player Alex Sosa taking a tumble after trying to kick the ball. The NPHS boys Frosh Soph beat Royal 2-1. The JV won 1-0, but the Varsity lost 2-3.

Recent news on the Apple computer front have not been good. Apple founder Steve Jobs has to take a medical leave of absence. Apple did not have any major announcements at MacWorld - other than this was their last MacWorld. The stock is stuck in the 80-100 point range after hitting 200 a year ago.

In normal times, this Saturday would be P-A-R-T-Y time! On January 24th, 1984, Apple released the famous Macintosh.

Remember the Super Bowl Ad that started it:

Apple may not celebrate, but I will do an Apple Cider toast on Saturday!
Wednesday's Soccer

Wednesday's soccer action was Newbury Park High School Boys against Calabasas High. The NPHS Frosh Soph and JV teams won 2-0. The NPHS Varsity had a 2-0 lead, but Calabasas staged a great comeback to tie the score 2-2.

1994 Northridge Earthquake

Tomorrow is the 15th Anniversary of the Northridge Earthquake. The 4:30 am shaker woke us all up. Of course I had to go off to work at the old Valley Edition of the Los Angeles Times.

I spend most of the morning helping coordinate coverage and pulling radios, batteries and other needed equipment out of the badly damaged Chatsworth plant. Late in the morning I was able to get a ride to Sylmar area with a reporter to check out the damage. Here are four photos from that morning.

For the next two weeks, I was at work almost constantly. Our house only lost a couple of chimney bricks. But it took a month to get the kids out of our bedroom - they wanted to sleep on the floor because of all the aftershocks.

Turned 200,000
200000x
Reached a milestone today, my 2001 Ford Focus turned 200,000 miles. Needless to say, this is the most miles I have ever put on a car. I used a point and shoot camera since cell phone use - and I assume cell phone camera use - is illegal while driving. Next January should be a new law against driving and taking pictures.

Sunday's drive led me to the small city of Fillmore just before sunset. During a nice walk around downtown I pulled out a camera and shot these frames. The Fillmore and Western Railroad Company is running on Saturdays only during the winter months. But in April the Sunday runs begins.

Downtown Fillmore was heavily damaged by the 1994 Northridge earthquake, but is now better than ever. The rebuilding was done around a small town feel, and works.

I will return.

New Year's First Soccer
xxxx
Welcome to 2009. Saturday was the Newbury Park High School annual soccer alumni games. The girls played in the early afternoon, so I was able to shoot part of their match, then off to work. I was not able to cover the boys match.
