September 28, 2016: The closed Ship Ashore Gift Shop and Museum in Smith River, California, just south of the Oregon Border. The Ship Ashore Museum is a former 157-foot yacht "Caritas" built-in 1925. In World War II, the vessel served as the coastal patrol yacht, USS Garnet. Following post-war disposal, the ship arrived in Smith River. Around 1965, 12 tractors took 10 hours to drag the vessel one-quarter of a mile inland next to Highway 101. An October 25, 2019, note at the Roadside America website reports the museum still closed but under renovation.
My thoughts on images past and present.
