The Sep. 5, 1982 Thousand Oaks News Chronicle reported:
"Friday afternoon 4,500 pounds of explosives were used to collapse the hillside behind the Tandon Magnum Corp. construction site. The California Drilling and Blasting Co. used 313 charges in its second detonation to clear land for the Willow Land Reservoir – a 5-million-gallon facility being built by the City of Thousand Oaks." During the first week of September, 1982, I had one of my least favorite types of photo assignments - a ground breaking. But while at the construction site, I learned of a nearby hillside being flattened - with explosives. That Friday, I was covering the blast, pic above. I'm spending my Wednesdays helping archive the Thousand Oaks News Chronicle photo collection at the Thousand Oaks Library, When I came across the blast negatives, I had to get this frame scanned and shared online. So the photo credit is: Scott Harrison/The News Chronicle/Thousand Oaks Library Special Collection. Many more photos from this collection are on flickr at Conejo Through the Lens. Have a blast this 4th of July weekend.
