Oct. 3, 2016: Pumps at a closed Phillips 66 gas station in Kent, Oregon. The unincorporated community of Kent currently has a population of about 65 people and shows up on many internet ghost town lists. This gas station is located right on Highway 97, with vehicles buzzing by at 65 miles per hour.
November 11, 2017: Aerial view of wind turbines in Altamont Pass east of Livermore, California. The first turbines appeared in 1981. By 1985, thousands filled the pass. But the blades killed hundreds of raptors annually. Most of the older and smaller turbines are being replaced with taller and slower rotating machines - safer for birds.
Dec. 29, 1984: Rick Nelson performing at the Shades Nightclub in Thousand Oaks, California. Nelson and his Stone Canyon band played two sold-out shows, but the first show started late - Nelson was stuck in a traffic jam in Los Angeles. Nelson began his singing career in the 1950s while he and his brother David, grew up on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" television show.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jim Rice takes batting practice after mid-season promotion in 1974 from the Pawtucket Red Sox minor league team. Rice played his entire 16-year career with the Boston Red Sox. He won the American League's Most Valuable Player award in 1978 and in 2009 was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
