May 13, 2017: Creek Street in Ketchikan, Alaska, is a boardwalk sitting on wooden stilts on the city's Eastside. From 1903-1954 Creek Street was Ketchikan's red-light district. Today it's a mixture of gift shops and museums. In 2014, Creek Street became listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

May 15, 2017: Waterdrops on leaves in Victoria, British Columbia, during misty rain. Victoria annually receives about 23 inches of rain, which is low by Pacific Northwest standards. Seattle averages 37 inches a year. Mountains to the west of Victoria block a lot of weather. The village of Port Renfrew, about a two-hour drive west of Victoria, averages 80 inches a year.

March 1982: Robert Nelson, the "Butterfly Man," eats fire during a performance on Pier 39 in San Francisco. Nelson went on to win Lead Street Act in a 1982 contest sponsored by Pier 39. In the 1990's I found Nelson performing at the Universal City Street Walk. He passed away on August 27, 2012.

May 13, 2017: Bald Eagle couple sitting on an island outside of Ketchikan, Alaska. I had taken a 300 mm lens on this Alaskan cruise but quickly found it was too short. But I had also brought along a Canon Powershot SX 530 with a 50x zoom. It's 1200 mm 35mm equivalent telephoto got this image and several others. The Powershot SX 530 is excellent during daylight, but terrible in low light situations.

May 8, 2017: The Space Needle in Seattle taken with the Quad Camera iPhone app. The Space Needle opened in 1962 as the centerpiece of the World's Fair. I was one of the 2.3 million visitors to the fair that year. The Space Needle is 605 feet tall and includes 25 lightning rods. The Quad Camera app became obsolete after a recent iOS update.
