Feb. 13, 2021: The Foster Park Lion Markers. In 1908 the two Foster Park Lion Markers in Casitas Springs were dedicated. They sit on shelves of two ten-foot-tall sandstone markers that sit on either side of Casitas Vista Road. The entrance to Foster Park is just before the stone markers. I suspect that in 1908, the entrance to Foster Park went between the stone markers. Despite being 112 years old, the lions are in excellent condition. Foster Park is currently closed.
Feb. 6, 2021: About ten miles east of Ridgecrest, California, along Highway 178, are the human painted Fish Rocks. Each of the rocks is about ten feet tall. Initially, local residents painted the rocks in the 1930s. In the 1970s, the graffiti-covered rocks got painted over. But soon, the eyes and teeth were restored. A good history is at this website: http://high-desert-memories.net/fishrocks.html
Feb. 6, 2021: Visit Randsburg, California, to practice doing infrared images on my iPhone. I used a 720nm filter, tripod, and the Camera+ 2 application to make these images. Exposures varied from about 4 seconds to 16 seconds. Randsburg is a "living ghost town" with a population of roughly 65-year rounds residents. In 1895 gold was discovered, and by 1899 about 3500 people lived in Randsburg.
