March 11, 2017: Elmer Long, creator of Bottle Tree Ranch on Old Route 66 south of Barstow, California. Long passed away on June 22, 2019, at the age of 72.
February 1981, photo illustration taken to an accompany newspaper story on tourists reading habits. Getting the seagull to pose was easy. After propping up the book with sand, I placed bread crumbs in front. Soon I had a seagull reading about Florida.
March 12, 2017: Amboy, California, on the old Route 66 in the Mojave Desert. The community thrived until 1973 when the new Interstate 40 by-passed the town. Today Amboy stands nearly empty, but a small, steady stream of tourists keeps Roy's open.

February 25, 2017: A Sherman tank redeploys at Fort MacArthur during the Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942 fundraiser. During the night of February 24-25, 1942, anti-aircraft guns around Los Angeles fired about 1300 rounds during a suspected Japanese air-attack. The attack was a false alarm. Each February, Fort MacArthur recreates the night with a 1940s dinner dance and fireworks show. This year's event is on February 22, 2020.
Feb. 19, 2017: A World War II-era C-46 Commando aircraft sits on display at the Joe Davies Heritage Airpark in Palmdale. The outdoor air-museum sits next to Plant 42. About 25 aircraft are on display. The park is open Friday through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Nov. 8, 2018: Looking down the spiral stairway located inside the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. From 1855 until 1891, the lighthouse guided ships into San Diego bay. Today the restored structure is a museum, part of the Cabrillo National Monument
