June 17, 2021: The 60-foot tall Ames Monument sits at the summit of the First Transcontinental Railroad at 8,247 feet, 20 miles east of Laramie, Wyoming. Brothers Oakes Ames and Oliver Ames, Jr., are credited for completing the Union Pacific portion of the Transcontinental Railroad.
American architect H.H. Richardson designed the pyramid, which included two nine-foot-tall bas-relief portraits of the Ames brothers. When completed in 1882, U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes attended the dedication ceremonies.
My thoughts on images past and present.
